A recent article in Plumbing Heating and Air Movement News has highlighted that, on average, 76% of people go online to find a plumber.

The survey indicated that the vast majority of people in the UK thought that the Internet was the best place to look to find a local tradesman and although there were some regional variations it averaged out at the above figure.

With this in mind, the relevance of traditional forms of promotion - especially telephone directories - comes into question, especially when you look at the cost of advertising in these publications.

It is also worth considering that the use of the internet is still growing rapidly so this figure will probably grow again.

The survey results highlight the importance of having a presence on the web as most of those questioned wanted to see a professionally designed website before buying from a  tradesman or small business.
